Scott Cao's 780 Series violins are part of the most well received violins in the history of our store. They are completely handmade and offer what we feel to be the best value on the current string market. The 850 models feature Italian Spruce tops, Chinese Maple back & sides, varnishing done in California, Dominant strings, Aubert bridge, Ebony fingerboard and a complete professional setup.
This model 780 is based on the violin known as the "LaFont".
|History of the "LaFont" circa 1735|
The "Lafont" Scott Cao violin is modeled after an instrument made by Guarneri "del Gesu" from 1735. It is named after the great Parisian virtuoso, Charles Philippe Lafont, who studied with Kreutzer and Rode. Lafont served as a chamber musician to Czar Alexander I of Russia during the French Revolution and served the court of King Louis XVIII upon his return to France. The original violin is currently owned by Nigel Kennedy.
